Location:  4-H Office

Time: By appointment; appointments scheduled every 15 minutes.  Arrive promptly and be ready at your assigned appointment time.

Eligibility:  Grades 3-12

Team or Individual: Individual only.

Description:   Rather than prepare a speech in advance, contestants pull a topic from a hat, have three minutes to organize their thoughts and give a 3-5 minute speech about the topic.  Questions will be relative to today's youth and may include current events.  Example:  What has being involved in 4-H taught me?

Awards:  Each youth receives a certificate and earns a blue, red or white ribbon based on the Danish judging system:
  • Blue (excellent): 90-100 ($3 clover bucks)
  • Red (good ): 75-89 ($2 clover bucks)
  • White (fair): 74 and below

Youth may call the 4-H office the following day to find out their placing; awards will be mailed.

Next Steps:   County youth in 9th-12th grades who earn a blue ribbon in the county contest will be invited to compete during State Contests in July.
