JOB DESCRIPTION: Workshop Instructor or Facilitator
4-H offers many short-term camps and workshops that teach project skills to 4-H youth. These camps and workshops are generally held after school, in the evenings, or on weekends. Volunteers determine the number of participants and establish the grade limits for their workshop. Most classes are offered to children in one of four grade divisions: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, or 9-12. 4-H will charge participants a nominal fee to cover the cost of supplies for the workshop.
A wide range of topics are offered, depending on the volunteers available and their skills. Examples are: sewing, woodworking, horticulture, electricity, quilting, beekeeping, or computers. For many topics 4-H has prepared lesson plans available. If you are willing to share your expertise, there are certainly 4-H boys and girls who will be interested in learning.
- Job Description: Workshop instructors prepare materials and teach the class. Rather than actually teaching the class, workshop facilitators secure teachers and help organize the event. 4-H staff will assist with securing facilities, recruiting youth, and coordinating registration.
- Time Commitment: The time commitment varies depending on the topic. Some workshops are a one-time event that lasts a couple of hours. However, some topics are best taught over a period of time and may be taught as a series. For example, the group might meet once a week for 3-4 weeks.
